Questions
When does a company need to register for VAT?
When its taxable supplies pass the registration threshold, and in some other cases set by law. The threshold changes from time to time, so check with us before relying on a figure you read online.
We received a letter from the Inland Revenue Department. What should we do?
These letters usually set a deadline for a reply. Send us a copy. We'll explain what the letter asks for and prepare the response.
Can you file past returns if we are behind?
Yes. We find what is missing, prepare the overdue returns and explain any penalties or interest that may apply.
Who is a tax consultant?
Someone who advises on tax and prepares or checks tax registrations, returns and replies to the Inland Revenue Department. In Sri Lanka this is usually a chartered accountant, a tax adviser or an Attorney-at-Law.
